My second big roadtrip was from Sydney to Gold Coast. This coastline is popular among surfers. Nearly in every town you’ll find a surfschool and when you walk on the beach I’m pretty sure you’ll spot surfers catching waves.
Newcastle
My first stop was Newcastle. It’s a really nice town with a lot of delicious cafes and restaurants. There is also a really nice Memorial Walk where you’ll have a increible view.
We were really lucky because we were able to visit a really nice market. It’s only once a month and there were a lot of really nice things to buy. (Why again do I travel with a backpack? haha). There was also live music which created an amazing atmsophere and for sure you could also get heaps of yum food!
The next day I rented a bike and cycled along the beach to the beaches of Merewether. You could really tell that it was a Sunday because it’s not normal that you see that many people on a beach in Australia.
At the end of Merewether I found a really nice hidden beach that is only accessible by foot. It was soo nice and quiet there!
Port Stephens
There is a wonderful lookout at Mt. Tomaree. It’s not a real hike up there, but you still get sweaty because of the heat!
You can also do sandboarding and camel riding at Anna Bay. As you see on the picture below there’s a lot of sand!!
Port Maquarie
There’s a really nice coastal walk along the beach in Port Maquarie. Perfect for a morning walk/run.
And you can also find the only Koala Hospital there. Every day at 3pm they offer a free tour through the hospital. 100% recommended – it is really informative and you really learn something about this animal.
Yamba
Yamba is a real australian surf village. If you look for a not so busy Byron Bay -> Yamba is the place to go!
It has so many beaches to offer and is great for surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddelboarding and more!
Byron Bay
Byron Bay is not only the most eastern point in Australia but it’s also a really nice and hip(pie) town. To keep it short: sufering, yoga, beach, good vibes – that’s Byron Bay!
I really could have stayed here a while …
Lighthouse walk – one of my favourite things to do in Byron Bay!
