The last few days I have experienced a total different site of Australia. A really dry and abanoned part and even though it seems like there’s nothing, there’s so much. Nature learnt how to survive in this dry area and shows amazing things.
I flew into the Red Center to see the holy rock of the Aborigines, the famous Ayers Rock. At first, I thought if it is really worth going 2.000 km inner land to see a rock. But to be honest, it is. I really enjoyed every second out there, not only because everything is so different from every other place I have seen in Australia so far, but also because of it’s different beauty and culture.
Uluru
Probably the most popular view of the rock. (at sunset)
We also walked half way around Uluru. Despite the heat and the nasty flies (please get yourself a net, if you think about visiting the Uluru!) it was pretty amazing!
I didn’t even know that you can find a waterhole next to the rock…
Climbing Uluru?
I thought you weren’t allowed to climb the rock anymore but that’s not true! You can climb the rock but the Aboriginal people ask you not to climb and respect their culture. And for sure it’s also not the safest track.
Field of Light
Currently there’s is an exhibition from the artist Bruce Munro. He installed more than 50.000 solar-powered stems. They light up at sunset and glow during the night.
You can walk through the field and honestly it felt like magic!
The next day we got up at 5am to watch the sunrise.
Kata Tjuta
Our camp for the night. We slept in our swags under the stars and it was incredible! The sky in the outback is so clear that you can see sooo many stars at night. You could literally watch the sky all night!!!
Kings Canyon
This was such a nice hike and the view was amazing too!
Alice Springs
Honestly I thought Alice Springs would be this city in the outback but it’s more a bigger village haha.
But it was still nice exploring everything!
School of the Air
It was so interesting visiting the School of the Air and get to know how the kids in the outback „go“ to school nowadays.
This is one classroom where the teacher interacts with the students.
In the picture below you can see how far the students are away from Alice Springs. Some students live pretty scary far away …
Three times a year the School of the Air organizes a meetup so that all the students have the possibility to see each other. But as you can see, there are still students that can’t make it to Alice Springs.
There’s a quote at the School of the Air that I think is really nice …
Bye, bye Red Center – was nice to meet you!!!
